Bioidentical Hormones and Breast Cancer Risk

Natural Bioidentical Hormones and Breast Cancer Risk

In the news recently it was reported that HRT increases the risk of breast cancer from reviews of more recent studies.

The hormones implicated were Progestogens not Natural Progesterone which is used in Bioidentical hormone preparations.

However there is still a small increase in risk of breast cancer with modern more up –to- date Progestogens and natural progesterone in some women.

Identifying which woman might be at risk of breast cancer is difficult, but a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer, as well as prostate cancer may be a useful indicator of potential risk.

Genetics may be a powerful initiator of a risk and giving HRT to women, may promote breast cancer. Early diagnosis and detection of breast cancer by observation and checking breasts for lumps as well as imaging. Breast mammography, latest machines have 50% less radiation and are more accurate, available in Australia, hopefully soon in U.K.

Looking at Oestrogen metabolic detoxification pathways with a urine test can be a guide to possible risk. A genetic lack of ability to methylate Oestrones, in particular 4OH Oestrone may be a risk for breast cancer. Resveratrol a nutritional product can reduce this metabolite.

Environmental pollution may also play a part in increasing the risk of both breast and prostate cancer. Plastics, organo-chlorine pesticides, Dioxins, BPA, are all promotors of change in breast tissue. Chemical pollutants disturb lipid and fat regulation and promote obesity. Many toxins are stored in fat cells.

Reducing weight and sweating will help in reducing the toxic load.

Exercise, Sauna and steam baths are all beneficial.

Bioidentical hormones if given in the correct doses and routes, either Trans dermally or sublingual, in some cases orally, are low dose and individually tailored to each woman.

The relief of the common menopausal symptoms, namely Hot flushes and night sweats, hyper-anxiety, tiredness, depression, no energy or sex drive, are normally achieved with the right dose of Bioidentical hormones.

Bioidentical hormones are derived from Yam and Soya and converted to hormones that are the same as a woman’s own natural hormones, these are then individualised to each woman.

Often the best preparation contain Oestrogen and Progesterone as well as Testosterone, DHEA, and sometimes Pregnenolone.

The hormones Melatonin and Oxytocin are also useful in some women. Melatonin is a powerful anti-oxidant as well as the hormone of sleep. Oxytocin is the bonding hormone.

Preparations can also be used to increase sexual arousal and sex drive, often low at the time of the menopause.

An underactive Thyroid gland is not unusual at the time of menopause, and a cause of tiredness and depression.

The benefits of taking Bioidentical hormones can be huge, reversing many if not all the unpleasant symptoms of the menopause.

Slowing down the aging process and preventing some of the diseases of advancing age.
