Erectile Dysfunction.

The incidence of Erectile Dysfunction (E.D.) over the age of 50 years in the U.K. is 10% of the population, and increases by 1% each year. However younger men may also suffer from E.D. which is mostly caused by anxiety performance.

The Physical causes of E.D. are listed below.

1. Diabetes.
2. Medication. (25% of E.D. is caused by medication.)
3. Vascular disease.
4. Depression.
5. Age.
6. Alcohol.
7. Smoking
8. Prostatic surgery.
9. Major abdominal surgery.
10. Radiotherapy.
11. Low testosterone.
12. Local causes (Pyronie’s disease)
13. Peripheral vascular disease.

The treatment of E.D. has changed since the availability of medication, namely PDE5 inhibitors such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. Newer medications are now available or under trial to help E.D.

Increasing penile blood flow via nitric oxide release can also benefit E.D. L-Arginine and Pycnogenol have been used with some success, and Horney Goat weed.
